Cold, dead fingers: Will motorists give up in-car cellphone access without a fight?

DEARBORN, Mich, May 14, 2016 Award winning Ford Driving Skills for Life program returns to the Dearborn area. The free program will train more than 1,000 teens and parents advance skills behind the wheel, focusing on skills within four key areas: hazard recognition, vehicle handling, speed and space management. The program will also discuss the dangers of distracted and impaired driving. Offering participants the use of two special impairment suits; the Drunk Driving Suit introduced in 2013 and the Drugged Driving Suit debuting this year. Both suits are designed to stress the dangers of driving while impaired. They also will learn the importance of seat belt use, pedestrian safety and about the risks of drowsy driving. Teens leave the hands-on clinic with more skills to help them navigate the roads safely. Ford Driving Skills for Life is a signature program within the Ford Motor Company Fund.The program was established in 2003 to address the leading cause of death for teenagers, vehicle crashes. Feds want automakers to figure a way to restrict the driver's (only) use of a smartphone. They're worried by a 3%-7% increase in auto fatalities.
