JEDEC certifies GDDR5X — will AMD, Nvidia tap it for next-gen graphics after all?
The memory standard consortium JEDEC has released an official standard for GDDR5X. The new memory is based on existing GDDR5 and doubles memory bandwidth compared to existing hardware. We could see the new memory shipping within a year, though some caveats apply.
